Geysers, trees
erupt from algae carpet. Knees
bent from chartreuse. Early
summer in the Delta makes
postcards out of swamps.
Time to tug life out of this place,
I imagine the cypress trees sigh.
Time to turn this place into something
holier and greener than they have made it.

As an archaeologist, he cherishes the opportunity to meet the past in person. He lets this experience, along with its inherent relationship to nature and the passage of time, inform his work.
